It's not hyperbole to say these amp sims are mosdef the best ever made in the history of the world. I have used them to track a few songs already and the sound, feel and adjustability are par excellence.
A few folks on UAD forum have been complaining about a few things and I'd like to give my two cents about how I've been using the plugs...
First of all, it's imperative the Hi-Z is set to zero on your interface. Then you get the pure amp sound without any of the dry signal.
Secondly, start by choosing a pre-set and then most of the time I think it's a good idea to turn up the output. It of course will not effect the gain on the amp because it comes after the amp.
So, how best to track with these monsters?
I use Luna and generally my workflow is to have subs for each group of instruments, then these subs go to the mix bus. While tracking with the amp sims, I turn down the mix bus fader so that all the other instruments are lower in volume while the guitar is going straight to the main output. I can dial in a good balance for tracking.
I realize the wave form is very small, but I checked with a VUMT calibrated at -18 and there is definitely enough there. Actually, it's nearly perfect output. If editing is required, use the option-command right bracket to get more girth to the wave form. Then ctrl-option-command left bracket to take all wave forms back to original size. If you use clip gain, it will bump the input and create more gain through the amp, making it dirtier.…
