Not long after the release of the venerable Neve 1073 channel amplifier in 1970, Neve introduced the 1084 — an "upsell" module that featured the same class-A mic/line preamp as the 1073, with the addition of three switchable EQ bands and narrow or wide Q settings. This potent combination offered producers a rainbow of colors, textures, and precision.

Life changer?
Like so much of UA's gear, this changed my recording game in a big way. Having only recorded with a real Neve channel strip once in my life, I thought I'd never be able to acheive such sounds again without dropping big money in a proper studio. After researching the differences between the 1073 and the 1084, I decided to drop my money on the 1084, and it worth every penny. Full blow flavor in so many ways. Having three separate outputs leads to creating incredible tones that don't blow your gain staging out of the water. Lately, I've been recording full sessions this week using it on every channel and all I can say is I can't believe what I'm hearing. Combining the Unison technology into my recordings really has given me the confidence to experiment with tones that otherwise we not acheivable with my former analog gear. If you're on the fence, jump down immediately and join the fun, you won't regret it.

I think the benefit of the EQ alone makes it a contender. It allows me to stay in the box with easy automated recall over outboard gear. I used the 1073 often, and feel like I should have grabbed this one first.

Very good channel strip
Adds a certain type of high end sheen that can’t be achieved with other plugins even with the default settings. It is also less harsh than the neve 1073 which doesn’t always sound good on every source.

What is with all the fuss
I honestly didn't think anything of this plugin. it didn't appeal to me at all. I tried it on vocals and oops what have I been missing... the amount of rich harmonics you can add. Then came drums, them synths and well the rest is history. It has a place on every channel if you ask me. The amount of detail that comes through is excellent. I couldn't be more wrong with my initial thoughts on this. Whats the fuss... well I was the doofus in this case lol
