Instantly made it into my mix template

I've had the great fortune to have used a fairchild 660 on a couple of occasions and it instantly became apparent why the 660 and 670 had earned their reputations. I've used some of the other emulations around but this one stands out and reminds most accurately of the 660's I've gotten to play with in the past. Very colorful and now more flexible than any other emulation with the ability to adjust H.R. and DC thresholds, sidechain HP, and the always welcome mix control. This thing is an absolute monster in parallel !!!

a 'should have'

You'll be surprised how much you will use it once you have it. From simple gaining to heavy compression/limiting. It has so many hot-spots for different purposes! If i had to choose one it would be this. Sounds so much better then the waves alternative!!!

Lexicon 224 Reverb PlugIn

Finally I bought the real reverb!
Previously enjoyed ik Multimedia. Magic sound is obtained.
Voice is not drowned in the mix. So perfectly audible reverb.
Thank you Uaudio!

I don't know how I did'nt notice the difference!

The most amazing transformation of my mixes to date. Everything is clearer, more present and fat. It's on every mix from now on!

Great on Drums and Bass

If you need a compressor that really clamps down on a track, the dbx 160 is perfect. Sounds like the hardware. Almost has a distressor-like characteristic in its attack. Excellent for accentuating the power behind a smash track.

Fast And Effective

This plugin is what I've always wanted in a tape emulation. I have the Ampex that I use primarily for the wow and flutter effects. For the quick "tape" sound, Oxide is the best I've used. I demo'd the Studer, and it is very much in that same ballpark-except that since there are so few options, Oxide takes less than 10 seconds to dial in the perfect setting and then I'm moving on. It took a couple minutes at least with the Studer because of the options. This is my utility, cumulative-effect plugin that makes stuff sound better. Try it out. Buy it up.

Extremely Useful and Great Sounding EQ

I don't know anything about the hardware unit other than things I've read so I can't speak on the similarities between the two. I can say that this is one of the best EQs that I own now. I have been using it on all busses and the master bus as well. I love how the EQ can tighten up the bottom and open up the top end beautifully. I don't have a problem with DSP because I usually set it where I want it and print the tracks to save power. Since I've been using UAD plugins this has become part of my process and I find that committing is helpful in saving time. I own a handful of the other UAD plugs and I can honestly say that they are all excellent!! The best in my arsenal.

Sounds great, but GUI needs modernization.

This plugin sounds incredible. But it also suffers from the same problem that almost all of their vintage plugs do: UA refuses to move into modern times with the GUI. You can't see the values of anything you're adjusting, and in recreating the exact layout of the original hardware, it's not as easy to see and navigate as it should be. For people like me who do extremely rapid work with super tight turnarounds with very precise adjustments (post production), it's a real drag. They should also go the Slate route and offer more EQ points (or continuously adjustable), etc. UA makes great sounding plugins but they are stuck in old times GUI-wise -- if they moved their GUIs to the 21st century, I would buy more. I stopped after this one.

Good for all instruments and vocals!

I've been using these plugins since I bought them and have not been disappointed yet! Have used them for all rhythm section instruments and lead male and female vocals - both during recording and mixing with good results all around. Highly recommended!

Oxide Tape

It's excellent. Try it. Instant glue on drum groups or mix buses, adds character to individual tracks etc... A different flavour to the ATR. marvellous.

Better than I thought it would be...

I purchased an Apollo 16, and Oxide came with it as a promo. Honestly, Oxide has sounded so good when applied to selected tracks, that I have started adding it to ALL tracks on recent sessions. Although the Studer & Ampex are highly priced, am seriously contemplating them as well. I'm currently remastering a 90's traditional country CD "in the box", and I'm using all UAD plug-ins on the master track. The differences are subtle, but amazingly noticeable when you get the presets / settings right. Although I feel UAD's prices are a little high, this one may be worth the $$$. I use more and more UAD plug-ins on every session.

Worth it!

Universal Audio did a good job with the Legacy Fairchild. I still use it. I live the driving, pleasant, smooth character it adds to my vocal tracks. The Fairchild Collection is a step further and gives me even more control ( also worth it!). You are now able to sonically sculp even more pleasant vocals. The harmonic shine on vocals makes it so nice with the 670. The 660 has a warm slightly darker character to my ear. Helps with gritty guitars. So if you were wondering if its worth getting even though you already have the Legacy version, it is worth it. And I'll say it again-UAD did a fine job with the Legacy version of the Fairchild 670. The Fairchild Collection, once you hear it, will only make more sense to have it too. Thank you UAD.

Take you mixes to the next "leveler"

This Leveler makes you mixes so punch, but try to use the knobs with responsibility, because it's to easy gets abused. Remember: A great sound comes with a huge responsibility.
