It was what I was looking for

When I was producing music and I couldn't get a sound source that I was satisfied with, I had half-given up thinking that I would have to buy a new sound source.
He was a savior.
It's the best.
UAD plugin is the best.
Thank you‼

Excellent Product

I've for years admired UA products but was never able to afford their hardware based products. Now that they offer software plugins, I'm thrilled. I recently purchased the Sound City Plugin and it is outstanding. Exactly what I was looking for! I highly recommend this product!

You don’t know it yet - but you really NEED these Capitol Chambers!

As a Nashville studio running two UAD2 cards in our expander, we probably have (and are expected to have) every UAD, WAVES, LEX, TC, Eventide, PSP, FabFilter, Sonox and countless other great reverb plugins in our arsenal. Also a host of outboard reverbs dating back to the eighties.

That said: When Universal Audio recently offered us a fair discount on “Capitol Chambers”, I already had many reverb options …. and I didn’t immediately leap out of my chair with delight.

I had a few spare minutes between sessions and ended up listening to the Capitol promos, because there is a VERY good reason why we do already have, need and make regular use of so many different reverbs over a multitude of projects. No two are alike.

To be honest, it was an impulse-buy, because I know from a long history with UA, that you can’t go wrong with them - and I knew that I would eventually use Capitol Chambers at some stage, once I had time to play with it and find out what best suited this seemingly “ordinary” tool??

Because of our large tracking room, we are regularly mixing acoustic music and instruments. Bluegrass, folk, singer-songwriter etc. Sadly, regular reverbs often change the “feel” of those often “organic” and real projects. So, I thought to myself, “What the hell. Let’s try the new Capitol Chambers today.”

Ummmm, all I can report is - no matter how many OTHER verbs you have - you definitely need these! They don’t so much “add reverb” as they add a warm and musical common space for all the ingredients and parts of your track to melt together beautifully inside of. They can be wide and very stereo (out of the way of voices, or solo instruments), or just natural and unobtrusive. In other words, they won’t invade, or cover your existing natural mix. But you’ll DEFINITELY hear and FEEL the difference when you mute the effect. All space and no "wash”.

What do they “work best” on? EVERYTHING! When mixing, just add a tiny bit more to the elements that you need taken back a step. And then use slightly less on the parts that you want framed by the “glued-together” backing and these dryer parts will magically pop out in front, but always remain part of the mix as tied in with the same Capitol reverb.

Yes. You need these, because they do what all the other room-sims and chamber IR’s once claimed, but never succeeded in doing for us. UA got it right again. Get ‘em!

Best sounding plate reverb that I have encountered

I've usually avoided plate reverb emulations in the past, but this one has changed my mind about them. To my ear, the plate reverbs I've experienced sound like electronic and cheap, not like a real space that I'd like to live in. I think it has something to do with the dimensions of the plate, and the quality and placement of the transducers. This one gives a subtle, pleasant plate sound, and seems more three-dimensional than the other ones. Because it uses relatively low DSP, it pretty much lives on my vocal tracks for the headphone mix. I record dry and add IR reverb to taste in post-production.

Perfect for small room studios.

Sound City is the perfect plugin for anyone like me, that has small drum room,(3x3x3), as dead as possible to avoid any annoying reflections, to add space and realism to your recordings.

Putting tracks in the same space

I bought this product in the midst of working on a country rock track. I record in a small home studio, with only vocals as audio tracks and the rest virtual instruments from various developers. I was curious if this Sound City Studios could help me put all the disparate sources in the same virtual space, while also fitting my specific song and recording. After experimenting with the plugin (mostly in re-mic mode) on a few tracks, I ended up going back to the original recordings for all tracks and using SCS to try and simulate all tracks having been recorded in the same space after initially using other plugins to remove the built-in ambience from my vocals. My PC is one I built back in 2014 and far from state-of-the-art, and I can only get a few instances of SCS operating in parallel, so there was a lot of rendering of tracks to audio with the plugin to come up with new "basic tracks" (i.e. the equivalent of what might have been recorded live in a real studio prior to mixing), but I feel the result was ultimately worth it, and I expect to use this quite a bit in the future.
