Depth and Width
This plugin is just special. I love using it on lead vocals (sometimes background vocals too). Whenever I want the lead vocals to have a little more depth/or width in the mix I just put this thing on a bus and send a little bit of the lead vocals through it. Great job UAD!

UAD Oxide Tape Recorder
I like it. Not nearly as versatile as the A800 or ATR-102, but it's not intended to be. It's something that is quick, simple, and imparts a very smooth tape-like sound. Very nice.

Spectacular Reverb
I have a mostly digital recording set up for progressive metal music. For example, I use an Axe FX to record guitars direct, which a lot of people probably cringe when they hear, but it works for me. While fractal has some great reverbs, this box just blew my mind a little bit for clean guitars.
Both direct and miked guitars sound insanely good through the lexicon 224. There is an immense amount of flexibility, a ton of variety, and some great presets for starting points if you're new to plug-ins like this one. Vocals, guitars, drums, a lot of stuff sound really cool through this guy. You won't be disappointed!

I love Oxide Tape
I must say I love all the UA plug ins I've purchased. I haven't been disappointed with a single one. My most recent purchase was the Oxide Tape Recorder. I started off by using it on the inserts of a group of electric guitars. Right away I noticed the tracks were a bit warmer and a punchier. The difference can be subtle at times but when you use it on multiple tracks the accumulated result is obvious. I couldn't be happier with all my UA products. I'm looking to get the Ampex tape machine next!!!!

Cool plugin
Nice little plugin to use for that exaggerated tape sound! I bought it with a cool promotion and I try to use it all the time, sometimes it works magics sometimes it's too much, like many other colorful plugins it's another tool in my arsenal! Well done (again) UAD!

A MUST HAVE/NO SUBSTITUTE
The ATR-102 has made the most impact on my mixes out of any plugin I've purchased in the past few years.
I delayed demoing it because I already had the Studer 800 on individual tracks and the Slate VTM on my master (I assumed relative equivalency)... I just figured I had my "tape" bases covered. I could not have been more wrong.
The Slate vtm is a fine plugin in it's own right and I'm a big supporter of their software as well, but sonically these plug ins are very disimilar to my ears. The Slate is very smooth with a hearty low mid harmonic bump, great for taming digital "edge", but in my experience it veils aspects of the "sonic image" and transients whereas the Ampex actually enhances those bits. After much effort I just couldn't get CLOSE to the same, brilliant results of the ATR-102 (And boy did I try to save myself the $$$).
The "3D" analog effect, the full range of saturation & harmonic content... it imparts amazing presence without harshness. If your mix "sounds like protools" this is the fix. Demo it, throw it on the master and hear your song sound like a record.
It really is a magic "better-izer" kind of plugin, without "hyping" the sound. If anything it makes everything sound more natural & feel more exciting all at the same time. I've never heard another plugin achieve what the ATR-102 does. Truly breathtaking, top 5, desert island processing.
Thanks UA!

No-brainer!
I tried this on my drum buss and had to buy it. Works wonders on cymbals. Now I track with it on almost every track to take the digital sharpness away on the way in. Love it!

Practical...
I love the fact that you can use these plugins in a way that simulates the use of outboard gear. They sound great and the portability of the Apollo Twin makes all of this a practical investment.

Fast. Musical.
Sounds fantastic. Eq is very musical and you can get the sound you want pretty quick. And without using any other plug in, really.
