I'd heard an awful lot about this plug in, and had experience using a competitors vintage tape emulation, but holy c$@p, this one sounds just like the real thing, i use this more a s a natural compression...
However it does seem to make strings (samples i.e. Kirk Hunter, vsl etc) sound a bit artificial, takes away too many transients.
Worth purchasing if you want to add warmth to tracks, as individual inserts on each track, or over busses to glue everything together

Excellent Work UA
This is the benchmark for console emulation, i have been lucky enough to record on API consoles and this is as close as it gets, especially having the mic-pre.... i'm looking forward to see more mic pre emulations in the future.

Great Plug
Let me begin this review by saying I don't like 90% of the plug-ins I try. This one, however, is one of my favorites. The preamp emulation does something very nice, that adds presence and a little high-end information. The filters seem to do their job nicely. Haven't messed too much with the gate, but I love the EQ in the mid/high frequencies. My only slight disappointment is with the compressor; it doesn't sound bad, just is a little difficult for me to dial in. The plug also takes up a lot of DSP on my Apollo Quad. All in all I am very impressed though. UA has made a very powerful plug that I definitely recommend trying out.

API Vision Channel Strip Plugin - Superb!
This is a beautiful sounding plugin, one of the very best sounding I've ever tried.
I've had (and liked for different reasons), both the Waves and URS API emulations. They all have a certain "API sound," but I think this one sounds a little closer to the actual hardware, and is more transparent.

la2a collection
incredable. i was under the impression the slight diff you hear
about with these units was for egg heads an gear heads.
but saw a great video with that fabio dude an gave em a try.
the bulk of my music is sample based and once i started hearing
how the three can be used to colour or bring to life various
parts.
the silver is the cleanest loudest beast.
grey less impact but increases music while almost smoothing
la2a orig 50s again reduces the material conpaired with silver
ive set up mixs purely with these and they sound better than
anything id done previous.
once you split your mix out using the silver for the upfront
sounds. do same with mid sounds with grey then the 50s for
further back your ready for some fun adding the effx.......

Superbe EQ

Best 1176 plug in made
My most used plug in, this emulation is better than any of the other 1176 plug in I've tried!

good upgrade
I was using the legacy la2a; I can definitely tell that the sound quality of this release is far superior; the compression curves are more usable; and the three different versions has their own use. Tried them on bass and voice and wow, that sound that i was searchin for...there is some creaminess that the legacy was lacking; and at estreme settings they are very usable; more 3D sounding even slamming at -20db...good job

I like, as this works.
Very worthy emulation. Helps to dispose of ensemble analog instrument, under ditto result, from big amount of the switchings, which costs much. Else if the price will be more reasonable, I think, UAD best on quality of the result.

Incredible Hulk
I find it hard to not use this plugin. I love to use the attenuation while boosting to really focus in on the frequency. The high end attenuation helps warm up a overly bright mix as well. At the same time, the high end doesn't seem to be harsh like other EQ's.

amazing!
i was skeptical at first as how different can the versions really be from the legacy version???
i was wrong they all have a different sound and all sound great!!!
will definitely be upgrading my other legacy versions to the new ones if they all sound as good as these

hello from Belgium eu
I follow engineers and producers on promo films in studio's all over the world.
Mostly you can found these LA-2A in their huge racks.
Well I had the first version and now I bought the new ones of these UA plug-inns.
And yes these are even better.(especially the Gray) On my tracks and on my master stereo out, I can't imagine without!
Only, UA said: owners of the 1st version will get price reduction, not so for me,maybe because the price was already lowered? But don't tell then.

finally
Not to violate any confidentiality agreement between me and Apple corp, I believe my audio drop out problem (re: my last post) is finally solved so.....I will give this plug a hearty 5 stars!

My go to plug in for tracking
This is the perfect plug in for tracking, api is my favorite analog gear to use and with this it's like having my own api console while tracking or when I need to change the sound of a not so well recorded instrument or vocal without having to run them through my real api gear! Great job UAD

I loved it when I heard it working for about a minute
Whether it's the fault of Apple computers or UA , the bottom line is that my brand new iMac doesn't work with my Apollo Quad. A problem that has now for me been over a month with no solution as of yet. So.........I'll review this software and the interface when some party can get around a fix. I am not the only one who has been inconvenienced both financially and time wise by this issue and the fact that, to this day UA states on it's site that this unit is supported by the 2013 iMacs makes them responsible to a great degree.
