second octo card
This is my second octo card in my system. I like the uad plug ins and use a lot of them in my mixes. I still prefer to mix as much as possible outside the box but when I use plug ins I want to use the best available. I really would like to see more DSP power on the cards. I use 2 Octo Cards and still I'm able to get it around 80% on a avarage project.
I really would like to see new cards with 2 a 4 times more power so you only need one slot in your computer :-)

HI
Thank you for asking - card works brilliantly.
The only thing I would like to write it whatever you as a great company UAD .. super virtual instruments. Do not be afraid of it.
Thank you, you're one y ... Top arrange still SLATE DIGITAL ... they are also emerging, and I think that you two - UAD + SLATE DIGITAL ... could make a good deal.
Good luck.

Really incredible sound
I'm in love with this system. I'm immediately thinking about getting a second PCIe card in the future and buying even more of the plug-ins to round out my setup. The sound of the plug-ins has been unmatched... The analog classics are really solid sounding inserts, but the Neve EQ and the LA-2 & 1176 are absolutely amazing. This system has breathed new life into my 5yr old Mac tower.

online testing would ease pre-purchase jitters
I wish there were a way to test out the plugins without having to buy the card, like a system similar to the Try-sound.com website, which lets you sort of "skype" into a machine running the plugins you want to test and transmits hi-res audio back to you so you can hear what they sound like. Try-sound is meant for sample libraries, so you're only sending midi data and they're sending back audio in realtime. it'd be more difficult due to the bandwidth usage requirements for transmitting .aif/.wav files to be tested, and hearing the tweaks in realtime. But that's a feature that's missing from trying out your stuff. As of now, you have to use them at a friend's studio to see what they sound like.

UAD Quad card
If you are a serious UAD user, you will need the power of at least a Quad card in your setup. Granted with programs like Cubase you can freeze the tracks to save on some DSP power. The cost for the Quad card in my opinion is over priced. Especially when you consider the card has been out for a couple of years and the cost of processors goes done every couple of months. (Look how quickly the price of your computer drops every 6 months). With that being said, UA has helped to reduce the sting of the $1,000 hit on the wallet. They many times offer credit or specials. In my case I was able to get a $200 credit which paid for the excellent 1176 Collection.

Octo Upgrade
Having been using a duo card for the last couple of years, and finding that running the latest plugs uses more power than I've got, I decided to add an octo card. I feel I can now run what I want with no worry's. I'm using about 60% power running LA2A 1176 collections, EMT 140, lexicon 224, EMT 250, Ocean Way and both tape plugins on an average 30 track project. My PC has gone from overloaded down to about a third power. The only drawback is the cost of the plugins and having to wait for the special offers to be able to get the plugins at reasonable cost.

I love it except the latency in protools.
It was a big upgrade for me from uad1 to uad2 octo. I'm very happy with the power of this card and quality of the plug ins . The only thing I'm concern about it is the plug ins latency which is very high in pro tools .

New Octo plusses/minusses
It's hard to give a star rating cuz I can't tell exactly what factors are contributing to my current issues. On Mac, Octo card requires OS 10.8 so I had to update that first.
The card itself is fantastic. I love being able to have my own channel strip setup on every channel without having to strategize which tracks deserve limited CPU available. Using multiple instances of real power hog plugs (Lexicon, Manley Massive Passive...) is a relief. I can use whatever I want where I want without second thought.
...or can I? I experience regular freezes that result in force-quit, and constant lag from drives having gone to sleep. Despite having a very powerful computer, there is a data jam somewhere that may or may not be due to Octo card.

UAD-2 SOLO
well i've just had it last week and started to use it i a work in progress.
After a short time, i'm not disappointed by this product.
High quality plugs, versatility, it enhance mixes without increase of the PC's DSP. That's what it's made for !!
So everything's OK :o))

It's a worthwhile addition to any Pro Tools rig, particularly given the dearth of plugins for HDX at the moment. I do somewhat regret not purchasing the Quad as, at 96k, you can't run a lot of plugins on the Duo - really, it's suitable for one or two plugins on the master buss and some auxiliaries. The Ampex and Studer plugins are superb (if perhaps a little easy to overuse).

All in all this is an excellent product but some of the plugins such as the Lexicon will cause the computer to crash. Judging by the feedback on some of the forums it seems as if I'm not the only one.
For logic users it's very helpful to check your settings to avoid latency on the buses etc. but it's not too terribly hard to figure it out. I'd also recommend running at 64bit.
It would have been nice to customize the plugin suite as there are quite a few plugins that I would never use and several that I wished I could have substituted for.

I was looking for more power, i already own an UAD 2 Duo.
Great Card as always, i don't put five stars, just because of the low instance count when using fatso.

Hi Guys!
With all this talk about "Neve", I thought that the only way I would ever get close enough to one to learn it well is to buy the next best thing. I am very happy that I did.
Being a bit old school, I love the fact that I have plug- ins that exist in the real world. I take pride in that I buy all the software on my computer. To me, UAD is one of the only plug - in manufactures that is not bleeding revenue due to the existence of hackers. That means the kid next door doesn't have the same fire power that I have unless he buys it !!
I will continue to use my UAD plug - ins as my go to plug - ins, because they do what they say they do ....awesome emulation of the real stuff.

Got this on a trade in for a UAD-1. Already familiar with UAD plugins and have bought several plugins to augment the ones bundled with the card.
Was a little disappointed that Nigel went away; but I didn't use it much so I guess I shouldn't complain.
Installation was dead simple. install the drivers, shut down, install the card, power up.
I was expecting a bigger performance differential between the UAD-1 and UAD-2. I can maybe use twice as many plugins, depending on which plugins are running. The one UAD-2-only plug I now have (the tape echo) takes up about 1/4 of the DSP bandwidth.
I'm glad I got it from the promise of 64-bit plugins and continued driver support.

UAD-2 review:
Installation runs smooth, contacted support for my plugins, got answer quite fast. My biggest issue with UAD-1: the latency is better now. Notice the new UAD-2 plugins uses much CPU, sounds lovely though!

The Good:
I finally upgraded my old UAD1 card for the UAD2 Duo. I'm loving the increased DSP power; I can use UAD plugins on far more tracks than before.
The Bad:
I really miss the Nigel guitar suite. That thing was an unsung hero, especially (surprisingly enough) on my bass tracks.
The Ugly:
The harsh fact is that these cards are expensive. For a proffessional studio, I'd say it's a no-brainer, but for a project studio like mine, well, let's just say my wife will not allow me to buy anything else music-related for a while.

super cool! works like a charm, a nice addition to my uad 2 quad !

After taking advantage of the trade in offer, and spending about a month putting it through it's paces, I'm pleased with my upgrade to the UAD-2.
Not only did it make available many more plugins, but it's compatibility with my DAW of choice ( Reaper ) made everything so much smoother.
