This thing is a beast! Sonically it imparts something very special and can really help to glue together tracks on a buss. All the joys of tape without the headaches.

To me this is the kind of plugin that you have to have been around the block a few times to appreciate. What it does is so subtle that you can hardly tell if it's on or not (on some settings) but it makes things sit much better in the mix amd that's a huge quality to me.
I think that this will probably a plugin that I will most likely add to preety much all tracks, or at least groups, until I run out of DSP.
With the One of Two headline I'm of course making a reference to the Ampex plugin which on the surface seem to do pretty much the same. Well I have both and the short answer is they are not :-)

My desert island plugin
If I could only have 1 plugin for the rest of my life, this would be it. By being a little creative you can get so much out of this. And it just sounds so real! I couldn't be happier with this plugin. This is the best tape emulator there is on the market. Buy nice or buy twice, this is the one. My only complaint:
Pitch control. Why is there no pitch control? To be able to slow the tape down, record and then set play back to a higher speed as you can with real tape machines would have been the icing on the cake. But I digress, beyond that feature there is nothing you can't do with this plugin that I like to call "Saturation Island"

Studer A800 2 Inch Plugin
I purchased this plugin when it came out over a year ago. Right after I purchased it they came out with the Ampex plugin. That was the one I really wanted to run on the 2 track bus. After using this plugin (Studer 800) on the 2 track bus and also after I started the Ampeq 14 day demo I was a little bummed out I did not purchase the Ampeq. A few weeks later I stuck the Studer on every channel of my mix (only the drums & bass tracks) and I was amazed at what it did. About 7 years ago I sold my Otari MTR-90 so I am very familiar with tape machines and how they sound.
If you run this plugin on your drum & bass tracks it just glues them together. There is no need to spend thousands of dollars up keeping your 2" anymore with this plugin.

a must for the bus
i use it on the bus for synths and vocal and it gives the sound this nice saturation and is glouing the things together. It´s magic.

No track without, EVER
I use this plugin everywhere, loving the 15 ips speed, it smooths everything and gives body to any material. On the Apollo channel strip and in my daw, it is always there to imprint that nice smooth tape sound to all my material. Cannot recommend this enough

Strepitoso, sicuramente uno sei migliori emulatori di registratori in commercio. Non adatto da usare sul master si presta per tutte le singole tracce. A800 farà diventare la vostra sessione analogica al 100% ottimo acquisto!

I've only used this on one mix so far. It made a huge improvement on my drum tracks. Didn't have to compress as much later on.

Been using for months now. It's my go to plug-in for drums and bass. I find after I fiddle with the input I often don't need any EQ. Gives my mostly in the box tracks the warmth I seek.

A little effort and you're in analog heaven!
While at a session in L.A. last week, the band and I over the songs a few times as the engineer was getting tones and recording them to Pro Tools (sounded fine). Then we tracked the keepers onto a 2" Studer machine. I couldn't stop grinning after hearing my kit played back through that deck (it's been so long, I'd forgotten what tape does for drums). When I got home I started the A800 demo, tracked some drums and right there in front of me was that sound. Subtle on the overheads (like they were EQ'd - with really awesome EQ), more pronounced on kick & snare (the body of the drums were pulled forward, whereas it was mostly attack before). The price kept me from trying this out before. Don't be stupid like me, buy this. I finally did.

Une grande ouverture
J'ai eu l'occasion de tester les simulateurs de bandes la première fois dans la collection wave. Je suis depuis resté plutôt sceptique sur la question, cette chose en plus qui apparait et sur laquelle on se pose beaucoup de questions 15 minutes plus tard et que finalement on enlève très vite. Pour le coup cette version du A800 est particulièrement étonnante car elle ouvre sur tous les paramètres existant sur l'original avec une réelle palette de textures, une finesse qui va bien au delà d'un simple boost des bas et des médiums arrondis pour donner l'aspect "tape". Je n'ai pas encore évidemment eu le temps de faire le tour de cette outil mais il m'apparait déjà comme terriblement excitant et créatif.

I bought my UAD Satellite mainly for this plugin (and got some other great ones too!)
This is a MUST HAVE! Great to have access to the Studer A800 at the touch of a button. I spent a long time learning how to line up tape machines... and now I don't need to!

Truly Awesome Plugin
I recently bought the Octo and chose this as my first plugin. Stunning reproduction of how analogue tape sounds and works, but with all the flexibility of a plugin. Different speeds, tapes and tweaks on every channel is the sort of thing I used to dream of! Want the sparkle of 30ips on the acoustic guitar and overheads, but the warmth and power of 15ips on the bass and kick? You can do it with this plug... and it sounds like tape.
I used to run a Soundcraft 760 in the 90's - early 00's, and whilst that machine was never in the same league as the A800, I loved the sound and the way things would just "sit" in the mix without much work. This does just that. Awesome.
Glad I went for the Octo though. It's a power hungry plugin. Worth it
