Quirky controls, but a helpful UAD manual helps
This is the first Neve thing I've worked with and I initially found the controls to be completely unintuitive with cryptic board legends. However, after reading the manual to wrap my head around the conventions, everything started to make sense. Once I had these squared away, it was remarkably easy to dial in the sweet spots for my mix. The manual mentions that "there are a total of ten different areas where the circuit can clip," and I'm keen to try to find each of them!

Holy cow!
The the 1073 is probably one of the most "legendary" pieces of gear and everybody is raving about its tonal qualities. Since I never had the opportunity to get my cold dead hands on the real one, I pretty much had most of the plugins of this badboy - Slate, Waves Scheps 73 and a couple of freeware knock-offs.
Again UAD showed the competition who's boss - this rendition of the 1073 is for me by far the best sounding plugin out there. Its my go to plug for kick and snare - with only those three knobs you instantly can turn dull cardboard into punchy drums. Not to mention fiddling with the preamp for some extra hat.
BUT
With over 67% DSP you are forced to use it sparingly unless you have a couple of octos...

Warm as Warm can be!
The Neve 1073 is a piece of work! I think every producer must have this in his/her arsenal!

Automatic "Make it sound good" button
Seriously, if you need warmth or cohesion on a track/group of tracks, driving the preamp section of this plugin while matching volume with the fader can add that analog saturation you're missing. It almost acts like a tape machine in that sense. The EQ is great for initial tone shaping. Depending on the track, you may need another band or two from another EQ to take care of the surgical moves, but again, where this plugin really shines is the preamp section. Put it on a drum bus and drive it up 15 dB on the line side (match the fader to -15dB)...good things happen

Neve 1073 is my new Go To preamp Plugin
I used to use a whole army of preamps. I used a 4-710D for guitar cabinets and drum tracks, Focusrite Isa 220 for bass guitars and vocals, and a host of ART, Roland and other preamps for various purposes. I have sold ALL of them over the past year. This plugin replaced several thousand dollars worth of gear. I now work on only my own projects so, no need to have racks full of gear to impress the punters. This leaves me with the Neve 1073 plug, the only preamp I need.

Assuages Vocal Harshness
I did demo's of the 610's and this Neve. It took out harshness in my voice and or Microphones that I normally cringe over.
I've been searching for a long time for something. Whether to sing different, find the "perfect" microphone. When it's really EQ that I needed. Lacking the expertise to apply EQ in the mix in the right places, this Neve plugin yields a recorded track that makes mixing so much easier.
I don't hear the difference Unison makes, but I use it anyways while recording. I've applied this as just a mix plugin and it does the same thing to my vocals already recorded. Magic plugin.
Makes me pine for the real Neve. I don't wanna know how much better it is.

amazed
I got hosed on the price and it is a real DSP hog to say the least (15% on my apollo quad) but the sound is just amazing. Pity I can't use very many instances of it at once

Amazing plugin
The sound is incredible. It needs resources, but the result is excellent!

very nice plugin
I use it with the Neumann TLM 103 for vocal recording and it gives the signal some kind of saturation, just makes it fat and less sounding digital. But it is very DSP hungry :) The EQ Section is very musical and works on almost every source

excellent
the 1073 sounds fantastic! Big cpu hit, but worth it.

Distorted and clicky
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I actually like the sound of it but when I play back it sounds distorted. Still working with it. I think the UNISON stuff is bullsh*t. I don't find it to be any different than using the insert slots. Whatever. It's also extremely huge. I am going to try to use nothing but a wee limiter. THat way I don't have to worry about some stupid rotten plug in trouble.

I can't say enough about this plugin!
It adds something to guitar that I didn't even know was missing! The sound of this thing is amazing. It's so simple to get great sounds.

Very warm sounding
This plugin sounds great on everything I try it on. I find the presets are actually very usable too which is nice.
I have found it good to EQ some of my tracks adding and cutting certain areas to get better seperation.
Glad I made the purchase its been a very positive experience switching to the UAD plugins.

game changer
It's really amazing how UA modelled this so perfectly. Before buying I was testing it vs the API vision channel and they were pretty much "tied" until I pushed the gain on the neve. God.. The distortion is unbelievable.. Just like working with hardware. Now I always track through the neve 1073 to get the neve tone. Highly recommended.

Neve 1073
After I got my apollo, everyone said this was the MUST HAVE plug in! so i waited until it was on sale and bought it! I have yet to try it as a unison pre, but i love it as a mixing tool! glad that it has the output knob.

Neve 1073 Preamp
The Neve 1073 Preamp with my Sterling ST55 microphone sounds amazing. It's much fuller than before. Great product.

Think of it as firmware
I have an Apollo Twin Solo, so I primarily use UAD plugins for tracking and on the 2-buss. For tracking, the 1073 in Unison mode really adds a subtle 3 dimensionality and a definite mojo. I attribute this to the way Unison affects how the Apollo hardware responds, so it's as much firmware as software. You will never get this from an all-sotware plugin solution. It makes a difference! I love this thing.
