Great sounding plug
I've got some prior tape experience, and I feel like the compression and distortion that this plug offers is similar. Is it identical? I don't know or care. I do know that it adds a subtle, yet noticeable compression and smear (in a good way) that sounds perfect on some recent work I've done.

Just like Having a Console
I bought the Apollo Duo and did a bit of research around which channel strip to buy (SSL, NEVE 88RS or API) and I found that the API had the most positive reviews and also the most features for a channel strip, so I thought I would start there, and I have found it to be incredible. The pre adds some great warmth when run using Unison and all the other features make up for a set and forget type of tracking experience. I am generally working from a recordist mentality to I don't mind the DSP usage as it's only running when I hit record, and its so nice to be able to mix tracks just using the faders now that the sounds captured are so perfect through the Apollo and UAD plugins.

Pleasure for my ears!!
I had my doubts! I have the Slate VTM and thought why another one? I wanted a warm distortion on a snare drum.. my TS808 didn't sound right.. thought about a saturator and somehow I thought tape saturation/compression might be it.. plugged in VTM... naaaa, not at all what I wanted. There's this new Oxide tape, I thought... Gave it a try and demoed it.. Plugged it in, turned up the input.. tried that thing on a bass guitar.. went straight to UAD and bought the plug in!! That's the tape sound I always wanted!!
Not much DSP is needed. That's really a great job you've done here... Thank you!

Easy GUI, DSP friendly and sounds great!
Had the Studer and loved it but with just a Twin Duo couldn't afford the DSP to use it on every track. Oxide is the answer - for anyone using the more modest Apollo devices this gives you the Studer experience without the painful DSP usage. Incredible job UA!

Warmth
I really really had a doubt about buying this plugin. And even though there are many videoclips in which people explain what it does, most of the time it was so subtle, I didn't hear it.
I took the risk and now I finally understand (or rather hear/feel) what's going on. The sound I have always listened to in the 70's, was all recorded on tape. And that "feel" is now also in my own music.
When switched on over a drumsampler, it somehow makes it all more enjoyable to listen to. When switched off everything sounds somewhat harsh and digital.
So in the end, I'm a happy man. Thanks UAD

Love this thing!
I am absolutely blown away by how this transforms my recordings. While it sounds great just as a plugin, when using it as an insert with the apollo and engaging the unison technology, even when just using the pre-amp part of the strip, it imparts a very focused and crisp sound with very detailed mids and tight lows. This is especially evident when you start stacking the tracks - amazing! I love the preamp simulation and the EQ, but do not really use the compressor, however I feel it's worth way more than the price of admission. If you can't make a good mix with this, you're doing it wrong.

A must have in your recording chain
I got it mainly for tracking with my Apollo, the preamp I choose to track It depends of the source but the chains always includes the Studer.
In combination with a 1176 or a LA-2A It gets your dynamics controlled at recording and i do less processing later at the mix.
Made some console presets for bass and guitar with several plug-ins combinations so when a want a precise sound it's really fast to get it and adjust for the track.
Get a good sound at recording spares you time at mixing and this plug-ins in my workflow helps me a lot with it.
I'm doing some tests with it on group busses but not yet comfortable to change my PT template, but the result on bussed drums and guitars it's quite good.
I usually take out the noise.

Superior tape emulation
For the longest time, I've always steered clear of tape emulation plugins because I never liked how it affected the bottom end (especially with mixes which significant sub 60hz energy). Because the plugin only really has two controls (tape inch mode & input knob), UA has very cleverly chosen to provide us with basically two ways to approach it : one rather transparent, where the bottom end remains nearly untouched but where the midrange benefits from compression & highly level-dependant harmonic distortion (the 15" mode - ideal for modern hip hop mixing), the other with a much stronger behaviour (the 7.5"). Note that it will always change your sound, so you'd better mix into it from the outset.

Awesome.
I was a bit sceptical why I would need a channelstrip plug for mixing only applications. For recording via Apollo it does make a lot of sense. But if you slap this badboy on kick and snare, crank the preamp section you'll add a lot of punch and character. The 4 Band Eq gives you an extra option compared to the e.g. 1073. If I knew how awesome this thing sounds, I'd skipped the 1073.
Also recommended on Vocals or for cohesiveness on busses.

A studio classic and absolute must have
The LA-2A is legend. With this collection you get three variations that give you plenty of options in any session... This is a must own for anyone looking to add that classic comp sound to your mix.

Very Pleased
This was my first add-on bundle and I was simply blown away. I've never used a real LA-2A but I have been through a fair share of emulations. NOTHING sounds as good as this set of plugins. They are also minimal on DSP so you can throw them on multiple tracks without any worry. I am hooked, so glad I went with this system.

Just amazing. Sold on UAD.
Sounds fantastic, at a better price than other tape plugins. Love my apollo twin, and my octo!

I have many tape emulators and this is my favorite
I have Slate VTM which is very, very subtle. I have j37 which is almost cartoonish but does serve a very real purpose. I love Oxide because it is realistic like slate but has a flavor like the J-37 without feeling "cartoonish". If you have UA's big brothers there's no need to get this but if you do not -- then this is a godsend. This will actually smooth up your tracks and make them just work together. I love it and it doesn't take much processing power. One of my goto plugins. Great job UA.

Love the Unison Capability
The best thing about this plugin is the Unison feature. This works great on guitars, drums and bass.

Awesome!
Everybody who buys an UAD-2 DSP card gets the legacy version of this plugin. I liked it from day one, especially on vocals and bass. I was tentative to go "all in" on the LA-2A collection because I was like, why would they make three different versions of probably the same plugin. First of all, ANY of these three badboys sounds clearly better, respectively more "lively" and three dimensional than the legacy one - which already sounds awesome. But there's also these subtle differences between "the old one" up to the silver edition. My fave is the grey one because is gentle, warm and gives you THE sound you expect from the LA-2A.
