Galaxy Tape Echo

A step up
I also have the Waves version of the 2500 which I always liked for the drum bus and sometimes on the mix bus. The UAD is definitely a step up, and now I'm addicted to it on the mix bus. I really like using the wet/dry mix knob and headroom options that they added. Another fine emulation from UA, and it's quickly become an essential part of my mixing process.

The "digital" solution
A must-have, if you're going full digital. With that amazing piece on your mix, you can actually skip analog summing. One of the finest pieces of gear I've experienced in music production. Impossible to do without it since.

Really Glues a Mix Together
The Studier A800 lives on all of my busses. I love the way it handles drum transients and the harmonic content and gentle tape compression it ads really helps to glue a mix together. I usually run it at 15 or 30ips with GP9 (using CCIR on 15ips) and love the subtle character it imparts. The auto-cal feature with the ability to over-ride it and change the bias is a nice touch.

Great All-Around Channel Strip
This is a great all-around channel strip. I love the bite that driving the preamp module adds to electric guitars and bass. The EQ is great for broad spectral shaping and I like the options to choose between hard/soft knee and feed-forward/feed-back on the compressor. The compressor's predetermined attack times are also really useful and I frequently use it to manipulate the envelope of my snare and toms. On the surface this channel strip seems relatively straightforward, but if you dig deeper there's a lot of really cool features that you'll find yourself using and experimenting with. It's a staple in every mix I do.

Solid as a Rock
The API 2500 Bus Compressor clearly brings out the best in a signal. This plugin not only works beautifully on busses it really shines on single sources as well. I am using it from vocals to bass and drums. The sound is always solid as a rock with a nice and tight low end. There is no smearing but clear definition even under heavy compression. Great work UA!

Worth the upgrade
for those of you wondering if it's worth it to upgrade for the legacy version; Yeah. While the legacy version is a great workhorse, the nonlinearities added in the uad2 version are fabulous on such sources as lead vocals and bass...just makes these instruments stand out and brings out the vibe of the source.

To me, this sounds most like my analog machine.....I like this even better than the Ampex ATR plugin.....One of my most used plugins....

Use it a good amount, but not always....
Would give it five stars if I used it more often.....for whatever reason the Oxide sounds better to me on some mixes....not always, but enough to affect a review....
Can make piano jump out of a mix, though....awesome for that....
