Classic must-have
What's not to love about these? Sonically pleasing, and have been used on nearly everything. Easy to use and to achieve great results!

Gentle giant
Very capable EQ and not too harsh. Takes a bit to learn, but read the manual or watch some videos- it's totally worth it!

Great delay. Interesting vibe verb. Pre-delay would be an awesome addition
I like this tape delay and especially the 3 different tape options, though I usually use “new”. It sounds different than the other tape delay and the cooper time cube, a more useable delay for most things imo - guitar, voice, keys, bgs. The verb on bgs is really cool too.

No Gimmick !!
OK the question everybody asks is : versus the Waves (witch is great by theway) BUT that said , waves is kinda vulgarous and exagerate the transient snap to mimick punch of the orginal HW : this leads to some cliky transient that are NOT here on the HW , thks to Transformers ... there come the UA one : Punch / body , without being vulgarous , and the timing is just on point , react like a HW simple as that .... MUST HAVE with the SSL G comp , the rest is bonus !!

That RCA Studio B Sound
If you need something a little warmer and bigger than the EMT140, this is a step in that direction. I probably overuse this in my own recordings which speaks to both my lack of talent and this plugins ability to make just about everything sound better. I’ve always admired the Chet Atkins / Elvis / Roy Orbison reverb sound that RCA had back in the 60’s and 70’s. I’ve been in that studio a number of times. I once asked one of the engineers to show me the reverb. He said, “It’s just a plate and a mic stuck up above the ceiling.” Pure Plate!

Not Bad, Comparable to Waves
Normally, I either love or hate a plugin, but this one is just ok. You can do the same thing with Waves' J37 emulation, or Black Rooster's Magnetite. It's a good plugin, but expensive compared to BR (free) and Waves ($35). It has some cool LUNA features, but nobody's actually using LUNA, so...

Must Have For Guitar/Drums
I made an entire API Vision console in my DAW with this plugin for drums and guitar, and it turned a dull/crappy mix into something you'd hear on the radio. Definitely worth buying if you're doing rock/alternative/metal.

My favorite on the Kick
Makes a BIG kicksound.

One of the best EQ plugins
It sounds great on everything.

One of the best I own
There is a "special feature" with that one (I’ll keep the secret, sorry) that makes it one of the most used plug-ins of my UAD collection. Thanks A LOT.

great plug!
very versatile bus compressor! replaces the SSL bus compressor in many situations and works just as fine on single channel guitars and drums. first choice!

The best tube compressor emulation out there
This plug-in is what made me convert my studio to an all Apollo setup!! I use the LA-2A on all my sessions. It just makes your tracks shine, Use on a solo vocal track, drum stereo buss or master mix buss... it will add punch and focus with enhanced fidelity. The Grey version is my goto every time I deliver a mix.

You need another happy review?
Wauw, the Ampex has more than 800 positive reviews x 5 stars, that's over 4,000 stars! (BTW: only the UAD 1176 has more satisfied customers.) The UAD Ampex is vintage, old school, sentimental, whatever en lets me think of my Revox B77 taperecorder. So many possibilities, such a smooth sound... And not to forget: the fun to work with.

Master-piece
It is really more than the A800, gives weigth and depth to your mix on the master, just use it wisely. Definitely was worth the year-end price. : )

Subtle big-board magic on native processor power.
I agree with the other reviews. In short, it makes any in the box mix feel better and more cohesive.
Technically, I love the balance of simplicity and control they’ve implemented with this system and the tape extensions.
I had purchased Studio One 3 a few years ago for its summing emulation. The control and implementation of the UA summing feels easier and faster to work with, though I’m guessing you could get similar results with both.
Sonically, depending on how developed your ear is, you might not “hear” much of a difference on one track, but put this on all your busses including master bus, play with “headroom” a bit on each track to taste, then toggle the whole thing off and on like they do in the videos. Listen as much with your feelings (“Reach out with your feelings, Luke”) as your ears; you’ll notice the difference. It’s a subtlety that makes one of the differences between a good mix and a great mix.
Between this and the Neve summing, for my tastes I would take the API if I could only have one, but fortunately you don’t have to spend $100,000 to buy a console anymore to have that luxury.
I have found that for some songs I’ll mix and match a Neve summing buss for certain elements and API for others because of the difference in vibe. Well done and well implemented, UA!
One note of joy and caution: extensions (shape, ravel, summing, tape extensions) run on your computer’s CPU. This means that you don’t lose an ounce of UAD DSP to run this! BUT you will use an amount of your native processing power. I’ve found that as of Luna 1.13, I can only run my render/native CPU at around 40-50% and have things stay stable. That’s on a 2012 MBP i7 with SSD. That however is enough to run all the extensions I need for most mixes on my system. On occasion I need to give up an extension on a less integral bus such as low volume harmonies or percussion parts, but generally it’s fine.

Perfect for a Modern Bass DI Sound
I was revisiting this to find a clean, modern bass DI preamp and I think it edges out the 610-B and Manley VoxBox for that clean sound. If you want thump, grab the 1084 for bass.

Depth, Punch, Width and Clarity!
Great tool for adding amazing depth and punch to drums and the mixbus!
