From Motu to Apollo
I have been a Digital Performer and Motu hardware user for 8 years. Motu are making solid products.
In April last year I run into a promotion by UA for the Apollo hardware plus $1000 plug-ins. I decided to take my chance and move into the UA platform.
I have to say that sound quality is absolutely a giant step forward.
The pros:
1. Great preamps.
2. Great plug ins.
3. Free plug ins....Stuter, SR88, Lexicon, Pultec Pro, Little labs voice of god.
The cons:
1. Some firewire issues when running plug ins at times.
2. bandwidth adjustment can be tricky.
3. no MIDI
4. Some instability of the audio hardware to drop once and a while when a session is loading. Again I am not sure if this is something to do more with my studio setup or not.
Update pls

Apollo QUAD Review
Overall, an amazing product!
Being able to record with the plugins on the way in is pretty much the same as having "virtual outboard"! It has allowed me to hone in on getting the sound at the source which has improved my mixes a lot!
I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
Minus one star due to its high price. I reckon that for its price it should include a couple more plugins. The "analog classics" bundle contains older versions of UAs LA2A and 1176 models, which was disappointing as there are newer version available on the plugin store.
If you arent looking to record with the plugins on the way in, then I think you may be missing the point of the Apollo and you may be better suited with a different interface and a UAD card.
Overall, Im happy

Pro Sounding Recordings & Mixes
I needed to upgrade my setup to as high quality as possible on a budget, and opted for the UA Apollo & Satellite over the Avid HD Omni, mainly because I wanted the UA plugins. After two weeks of tracking guitars & vocals and mixing full band, it sounds fantastic. The Lexicon 224, Ocean Way, Neve 88RS & SSL G Series compressor plugins are shaping the sound of pretty much everything I'm working on. The Apollo looks and works great, & is easy to setup and use. I couldn't be happier with the results - amazing what you can do in a project studio these days!

Apollo quality
The four preamps sound really good, they sound better than the external preamps i have (Joemeek, Black Lion) and any preamp interface i have used. Actually i only use my external pres when i need to record more than four tracks. Notice that the two intruments inputs and line inputs 1 to 4 are not "extra " inputs. They share the first four channels with the mic pres. Inputs 5 to 8 are line only.
The plugins that come with the unity are very good. The combination of input plugins with nice pres and converters makes Apollo the best soud quality interface on the market today for the price. Notice that it comes with a few plugins, the rest is in demo mode and you have to buy.
Very happy with Apollo, worth it!

Highest quality bag of tricks interface on the market!
I picked up an Apollo Quad with thunderbolt card a few weeks ago...
My first impression was how easy the setup is. UA seems to have automated licensing/ registration covered very well. Interaction with the website is a breeze.
The D/As are amazing- very high quality and are practically identical to the to my Dangerous D-box D/A. So far I've only tracked acous guitar and vox with the mic pre and direct guitar/bass with the HiZ input. All are superbly clean, the pre has exceptional noise floor and no loss of body with the HiZ like other interfaces.
The console app is wonderful, offering recorded or monitored only fx and to have a dedicated 224 as realtime monitor verb is awesome! 4 stars for now, 5 stars once it passes test of time.

Apollo Duo
I used apogee duet before, and i can tell that sound of apollo is much more clear and full of details ,stereo imaging is much better, and there is no more blur on low frequencies. For now i used only plugins from analog classic bundle, Pultec EQ, 1176, la2a are my favorites.

Great - but picky with components
The UA Apollo Duo has been a joy and a pleasure to use. It's slick and well-designed, the preamps are clean, the AD conversion is pristine and, most of all, the plugins sound amazing.
My only concern is that the Apollo can be very picky with what Firewire devices it can co-exist with. Read up on that before buying. I had to return a Firewire repeater because of this. It can also be temperamental with Firewire hard drives sharing bandwidth - so i would recommend plugging it in separately.
If not for this, 5 stars.

WAITING ON AND UPDATE
I WOULD RATE THE APOLLO SYSTEM A FIVE OUT OF FIVE, BUT IT IS NOT YET
PROTOOLS 11 COMPATIBLE....IT IS ONE OF THE FINEST AUDIO INTERFACES
ON THE MARKET AND THE PLUGINS ARE SECOND TO NONE...UA HAS
PROVIDED ME WITH GREAT SERVICE WHEN I HAVE A QUESTION, SO I
BROUGHT A SECOND APOLLO FOR MORE INPUTS AND DSP....IT'S A FINE
UNIT AND I CAN'T WAIT TO TRY IT WITH PT 11......ORJ

The best piece of gear in my studio
So simple. It's the best piece of gear in my studio. The plugins are just a bit expensive but the quality is amazing. Im very happy with the whole system of Apollo. It's so sad that i waited so much to have it. Now i don't know how to live without it.

I am Reborn!!!!
All I can say is WOW!!!! I feel like I'm recording in Heaven!
The Apollo is a beautiful interface with plenty of head room.
A/D converters are great, and the plugins are phenomenal.
I've been recording with the M--- 8--MK3 and I just gave it
away to a friend. I don't plan on using that anymore. Lol
I wish the plugins were included, but being that they are the
best (in my opinion) you get what you pay for. Thank you
Universal Audio for making this interface!!!!

Sounds great, but...
The sound is wonderful. And the software is user friendly. BUT, I am still experiencing difficulty when running even one of the tape machine emulators, on a single track. Lots of latency and glitchy sounds. thought the quad would solve that. That is why I upgraded from the DUO. So I have a strong well set up IMac and have all settings dialed in correctly. So, there is my two cents.....still sounds killer though! Oh, MIDI would be nice.
Thanks.
Hope this gets to someone real smart and motivated. ;)
