Use alongside UAD-2 PCIe DSP Accelerator cards and UAD-2 Satellite FireWire for truly scalable mixing power
Produce music with UAD plug-ins like the included Teletronix® LA-2A, 1176, and Fairchild® compressors, Pultec® EQs, and 610-B Preamp
Track with near-zero latency through preamp emulations from Neve,® API,® Manley,® and more
Unison Technology: The Genuine Sound of Neve, API & Manley Preamps
Apollo FireWire features four Unison-enabled mic preamps, letting you track through exacting mic preamp emulations from Neve, API, Manley, and Universal Audio. An Apollo exclusive, Unison technology nails the tone of these sought-after tube and solid state mic pres — including their input impedance, gain stage “sweet spots,” and the component-level circuit behaviors of the original hardware.
The secret to Unison is its hardware-software integration between Apollo’s mic preamps and its onboard UAD-2 QUAD or DUO Core DSP Acceleration. Simply place a Unison preamp plug-in on your mic input in Apollo Console software, and it physically reconfigures the Apollo interface's impedance — so you can tap into the classic sounds of the world’s most recorded mic preamps.

Analog Processing OnboardRight out of the box, Apollo FireWire provides a suite of incredible analog emulation plug-ins including the world’s only authentic Teletronix LA-2A, 1176LN, and Fairchild compressors, the legendary Pultec EQs, and the Unison-enabled UA 610-B Tube Preamp. Developed by UA’s world-renowned team of algorithm engineers, these Realtime Analog Classic plug-ins set the standard by which all other hardware emulation plug-ins are judged.
From the tube warmth of the Pultec EQ on guitars, to the gentle limiting of the LA-2A on vocals, or the pump of a genuine Fairchild 670 compressor on drums, your recordings will take a giant leap forward in rich, sonically complex analog sound.

First Class 2nd Hand
I'm new the UA family. After dipping my feet into the Apollo waters with the purchase of my Solo last November, I dove in and picked up a second hand 2010 FireWire edition. Yeah, that sounds like a dinosaur, but I have an old MacMini 2012 that is happily hosting it and it's working like a charm. Running ADAT to connect with my Focusrite, after some work they are now seamlessly working together. I just made some recordings with my band this evening, and later listening to what these four Unison channels did to the drums just blows me away. They brought a flavor and texture that I didn't expect to hear already from the first session. All I can say is I'm addicted to this sound (now I wish I had the Apollo with 8 channel Unison). I'm running LUNA even on this older machine along with an UAD Satellite, so plenty of DSP and so far so good. After recording, I bring the tracks home and mix them in LUNA with a newer Apple computer. I love older computers and gear so it's been fun building up these different UA working environments. They also made Thunderbolt port card you can use to upgarde. Mine has a Thunderbolt 2 and I'm able to connect it with an Apple Thunderbolt 3 adapter to my newer computer. So it's all been WIN/WIN!

APOLLO + UNISON + LUNA = PRO MUSIC
My decision to purchase UAD Plugins, and buy an Apollo interface to take my audio productions to the next level wasn’t in vain at all. The result is so obvious especially with the unison technology, it’s like having a UAD interface that is able to use the unison technology and Luna is the best road that leads to pro audio production.

Tainer
Even Better Than All the Positive Reviews...
I started out my recording career with all analog equipment--first the Tascam Portastudio, then 4-track reel-reel to half-track mastering. I learned a lot. Then, in the late 90s, my first forays into digital audio started out with the M-Audio products and as I got better and my needs grew, Focusrite. The Saffire Pro 40 was fantastic, and soon I moved on to the Clarett 4pre with thunderbolt on my Mac Pro Cylinder. While I loved the quality of the Clarett, I needed something more. I had always admired the Universal Audio products from afar, but they were well out of my price range for what I needed.
Cut to this month: I had the opportunity to purchase an Apollo 8 used for a very good price--in fact cheaper than buying a Focusrite Clarett 8pre, which is what I was intending. I was always wary about not just the cost of buying an Apollo, but the cost of the plug-ins, etc. Well after taking the plunge, and adding the classic plug-in options that are free, and that are easily purchased during the holiday sale, I have everything I need for now.
The quality of the Apollo 8 is impeccable. The Unison preamps work as well as my actual Marshalls and Fenders--the only way I can distinguish them from the real deal is because the sound is slightly cleaner from the Apollo (no room sound)--that's it! I used to have to do all sorts of post-processing of my guitar mic'ed from the cabinet or my vocals going dry into the very nice AIR preamps of the Focusrite, but here, all that there's left to do is some slight tweaking for them to sit properly in the mix. I always thought my vocals were very thin, yet recording them here for a scratch vocal track through the Neve 1073 plug-in, they sounded full and nearly mix-ready.
Again, I really loved my Focusrite products and their fantastic support over the last 13+ years (and I continue to use them through my Apollo via ADAT!), but I have to say that the Apollo system is not just hype--I feel like my recording has taken a huge step forward in quality and I look forward to many more years of recording.Y. Apollo Quad for Prema Studio
We bought this unit used as a Quad with 4 unison preamps and just inserted a TB3 option card and for a very reasonable price we have another studio worker to our beloved Apollo x6, thanks so much Universal Audio for the great units you make...

very happy chappy
like the quality of the unison pres
like quality and tones of the plugins
like the versality of the appollo - whether through console or whichever DAW of choice.

Excellent
Smith
Apollo FireWire
I use this product for my live sound shows along with studio stuff. The ability to take my studio plugins and pre amps into the live world so easy is what makes this product really amazing.

Marshall Heaven
I bought recently my Apollo 8 and must say I am delighted with the zero latency electric guitar emulations. My tones directly into console through the unison pre are first class - the rest of the features that this unit offer are in my world absolutely correct. I also have a satellite and a 2012 Mac mini running pro tools - no issues

Great Audio interface
Great interface and plug-ins, just have a little issue, which I believe UA should have a video to switch from FireWire to Thunderbolt.

AWESOME
I went from RME to Prism Sound and now into the UA... and I gotta tell you the Apollo has nothing to ask other Hi end and more expensive brands. Very versatile, nice preamps and of course, Plugins are awesome!
